Outdoor Digital Signage
There are plenty of challenges when implementing outdoor digital signage however despite this more and more electronic screens are being built outside to make the most of the higher audience numbers these outside digital advertising screens can generate. While the most obvious obstacle for carrying a commercial grade LCD screen outdoors is shielding it from the weather, and in particular rain, the problems connected with the sunlight can be just as difficult to overcome. The problem with the sunlight and outdoor electronic signage is that direct sunlight will frequently create the screen unreadable. Not only can sunlight cause warmth (you must know what that’s like when you attempt to see the TV at home throughout the summertime where very often you are forced to shut the curtain to watch the display clearly) but even when there’s absolutely no warmth in bright sunlight the display will look dim and difficult to see. However there are methods to ensure the display is as easy as you can when taken outdoors:
Brightness
Assuming you’ve the brightest type of display possible will go along way to making sure the display is readable. The minimum display brightness for any outside LCD screen should be 800 nits however LCD with 1000+ nits are available and must be taken into account when looking to get into outdoor digital signage. It should also be noted that in general commercial screens have higher nit values and therefore are better suited to outdoor signage screens.
Anti-glare technologies Regrettably, no matter which way you go on this there most likely will be some drop-off in brightness. Direct sunlight can cause more problems than simply glare also. Display burn can develop whether sunlight is continually on it either the outside digital display should be turned away from sunlight or some other remedy to prevent this display burn should be looked at like warming the display itself.
A lot of content which works well in indoor places doesn’t respond well to be taken outdoors. Use colors and designs which are more notable in outdoor places. There’s frequently a great deal of trial and error involved in this but check what works and what doesn’t and you need to soon develop a flare for designing content that’s suitable for outdoor electronic signage.
